Worldwide Covid-19 infections hit 120m mark

KABUL (Pajhwok): Worldwide Covid-19 infections have hit the 120 million mark, media reports said on Sunday.

The virus was initially detected in the Wuhan city of China before it spread to 200 countries and regions around the globe.

The pandemic has been controlled in some countries but a large number of states have reported the second wave of the disease.

International sources said the coronavirus infections soared to 120 million as of Sunday noon.

Over 90 million infected individuals have recovered from the pandemic, which has claimed over 2.6 million lives to date.

Figures show over 400,000 individuals are infected with the virus and around 6,000 others succumb to the disease on a daily basis.

Reports indicate that 30 million people are infected with Covid-19 in the US, 11 million in India and 11 million in Brazil.

As many as 546,000 people have so far died from the virus in the US, 18,000 in India and 277,000 in Brazil.

Similarly, Russia, Columbia, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Britain, Italy, Germany, Iran, Turkey and Peru have seen a big number of infections and deaths.

In Afghanistan, 55,985 people have been infected with the virus and 2,457 others killed. Over 49,000 have recovered from the pandemic.
