PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Local officials on Sunday said two police commanders who had sustained serious injuries during conflicts in Laghman and Baghlan provinces have succumbed.
Sayed Mir, a police commander in Baghlan-i-Markazi district of Baghlan province died today of his injuries in hospital.
Sayed Kamal Wardak, the district chief confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the death of the police commander and said that Sayed Mir was wounded during a fight with the Taliban about a week ago but was succumbed today in a hospital in Kabul.
A source close to Sayed Mir said that Mir had played an important role in the security of Fabrika area of the district and the situation has worsened in the area after the death of the commander.
Ahmad Javid Basharat, Baghlan police spokesman also confirmed the incident and said that Sayed Mir had controlled the Taliban’s influence in the area.
Mir previously served as first police district chief of the capital of Baghlan province and police chief of Baghlan-i-Markazi district of the province.
According to another report, police chief of Dawlatshah district of Laghman province who was wounded in a clash with the Taliban today morning, also succumbed.
Khairullah Khairkhwah, chief of Dawlatshah district said that the district police chief, Abdul Zahir Attal was seriously wounded and one of policemen killed in a battle with the Taliban.
He said that Attal later succumbed to injuries in a hospital.
Taliban militants did not comment about the incidents so far.
