Logar jail battalion police chief killed

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Taliban insurgents killed a senior prison official in this capital city of central Logar province last night, police said on Wednesday.

GulHaidar, spokesman of Logar police, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban on Tuesday night opened fire at Mir Hamza, chief of Logar prison battalion, in limits of Pul-i-Alam first Police district.

He said the insurgents gunned down MirHamza in front of butcher shops.

An eye witness, Ahmadullah told Pajhwok Afghan News armed insurgents opened gunfire and killed a policeman who was buying groceries from a shop.

The Taliban on the other hand have not commented in this regard.

Separately, a mortar shell hit a house in limits of third Police district in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province.

A security source, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News that one woman was killed and another wounded in the incident.

Lately, targeted killings have spiked throughout the country, triggering concerns among the public.
