KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Afghan National Army (ANA) commando personnel have freed five security force members from a Taliban-run prison in northern Kunduz province, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Monday.
Fawad Aman, spokesman for MoD, told Pajhwok Afghan News the commandos raided the Taliban jail in the Qosh Tapa area of the 4th police district of Kunduz City on Sunday night.
He said five security personnel were rescued, 12 insurgents killed and eight more captured alive during the overnight raid.
Aman added a number of weapons and ammunition belonging to the militants were also seized by the government forces.
In a statement, the 217th Pamir Military Corps confirmed the raid and said the freed individuals included two ANA soldiers, two policemen and a public uprising member.
The Taliban, however, have not yet commented on the overnight commando raid on their prison.
