Some govt negotiators to travel to Qatar tomorrow

KABUL (Pajhwok): The High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR) on Monday said that a number of members of the government’s negotiating team would travel to Qatar on Tuesday to continue peace talks.

HCNR spokesman, Faridoon Khwazon told Pajhwok Afghan News that a number of other members of the negotiating team were already in Qatar.

Some of the team members who had previously returned to the country would go back to Qatar on Tuesday, he said. “Our delegation is ready for talks and the only solution to the conflict is dialogue and negotiations,” Khwazon added.

On the other hand, spokesperson of the State Ministry in Peace Affairs, NajiaAnwari today said that both sides (the Taliban and government) had emphasized on the resumption of negotiations earlier in a meeting.

“The negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is again joining the negotiating table with a strong intention and commitment, so the talks are resumed from the point where it had stopped,” she added.

HCNR chairman, Abdullah Abdullah also earlier had said that the government’s negotiating team would again travel to Qatar for resuming intra-Afghan talks in near future.

The intra-Afghan negotiations between the Taliban and the government started in September 2020 in Doha, but no remarkable breakthrough had so far been achieved in these talks.

HamdullahMohib, National Security Advisor, last Sunday told reporters that talks were at standstill because the Taliban had no interest in dialogue.

However, the Taliban usually accuse the government of delaying the peace negotiations.
