KABUL (Pajhwok): Hundreds of Afghan security personnel who fled to Tajikistan as a result of Taliban attacks have been flown, reports a Dushanbe-based news agency.

Since July 6, 600 Afghan soldiers have been flown home from the Central Asian country, bordering Afghanistan, on four flights, Asia Plus said.

The last flight carrying 130 Afghan servicemen left the Kulob airport on the morning of July 7, the media outlet quoted a security source as saying.

Airport officials said they were not authorised to comment on the evacuation of the fleeing Afghan security forces.

About 300 more Afghan soldiers would return home in the coming days, a Tajik security official told Reuters news agency.

Amid significant territorial gains by the Taliban in northern Afghanistan in recent weeks, hundreds of Afghan soldiers have crossed the border into the neighbouring country.

Meanwhile, RFE/RL’s Tajik Service reported at least three Afghan soldiers, who were seriously wounded in the fighting, were hospitalised in Jaihun district.
