MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Security officials in eastern Laghman province on Thursday claimed recapturing the Badpash district from the Taliban as a result of an operation.
About a month ago, following a Taliban attack in the district, the provincial administration issued a statement saying it had relocated the Badpash district center to protect civilians.
A statement issued by the 20 National Security Special Forces in the east said that Badpash district had been cleared of Taliban insurgents and security forces had been deployed there.
In a statement issued to Pajhwok Afghan News, the agency said Badpash district had been cleared of insurgents as a result of a special operation by the security forces, in which seven insurgents were killed and several others wounded.
Two vehicles and ammunition were also seized from the militants, the statement said.
The Interior Ministry confirmed in a statement that Badpash district had been recaptured by security forces.
Police spokesman Shafiullah Afghanyar also told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan security forces had launched an operation in Badpash district last night and cleared it of Taliban insurgents.
He said no security personnel or civilians were killed or injured in the operation.
Armed Taliban have said nothing in this regard.
