KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): At least three civilians have been killed and eight others injured as clashes between security forces and Taliban gunmen continued in southern Kandahar province on Tuesday, officials said.
Taliban and security forces also suffered casualties in the ongoing conflict in some parts of Kandahar city.
Dr. Mohammad DaudFarhad, director of the Mirwais Regional Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they had been delivered three dead bodies and 20 injured civilians.
The injured included eight civilians, including a woman and five children, and the rest were soldiers, he said, adding that the victims were brought from 5th, 8th and 15th security districts of Kandahar city, Mirwais Mena, Dand and Arghandab districts.
Security officials said security forces were conducting operations backed by air support in various areas of the city and some districts and inflicted heavy casualties on the Taliban.
A spokesman for the 205th Atal Corps in Kandahar, Major SadiqIssa, said, the operations were underway in different parts of Kandahar city, Dand, Zherai and Takht-i-Pul districts.
He said 47 militants were killed and 25 others were wounded in the operations, which also destroyed their weapons, vehicles and hideouts.
Fighting was also reported at security check-posts in Mirza Mohammad Khan Kalacha and Khakrezan areas of Kandahar city’s 5th security district.
The district chief, Ismat Afghan, said a number of militants had been killed and pushed back, but fighting was still ongoing in some areas..
Armed Taliban have said nothing in this regard.
