KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA) announced on Monday the Kabul International Airport was ready for flights from 6:00am to 6:00pm after a month-long hiatus
Media reports say the US forces destroyed facilities, aircraft and vehicles at the airport during their withdrawal from the country after a 20-year presence.
Work on reconstructing the Hamid Karzai International Airport began with assistance from Qatar.
Ghulam Jilani Fafa, ACAA head, said: “The Kabul airport has reopened for domestic and international flights. Technically, it is ready for international and domestic flight operations.”
With flights from two countries, Iran and Pakistan, having already landed at the airport, it is technically ready, but only from 6am to 6pm.
According to Wafa, efforts are underway to make the airport ready for night landings and takeoffs.
In addition to Pakistan, Wafa said, they had also asked the UAE, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and other countries to start flights to Kabul. But ACAA has not yet received any response.
