JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Local officials in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday said the Torkham gate has been reopened to all visa holders after a long closure.

Local officials said that the border crossing was reopened this afternoon as a result of talks with Pakistani authorities.

Torkham commissar,GhaziullahHashimi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Afghan side had been trying for the past few weeks to negotiate with the Pakistani side and open border for passengers.

“Fortunately, the outcome of the talks between the two sides was positive and the Torkham port was reopened this afternoon,” he said. He says all people with visas could pass the border now.

Nangarhar Information and Culture Department also confirmed to Pajhwok that the Torkham gate had been reopened.

Meanwhile, Nasir Ahmad, a health worker in Torkham, told Pajhwok that the border was reopened this afternoon and all people with visas were allowed to cross it.

The border was closed for passengers for a long time, but it remained open for commercial transports.

This comes as Pakistani foreign minister arrived in Kabul today for strengthening bilateral ties between the two neighbors.
