KABUL (Pajhwok): At the conclusion of the G20 summit, British prime minister pledged more than $68 million in aid to Afghanistan.
The two-day summit of the world’s largest economies concluded on Sunday in the Italian capital, Rome.
According to reports, a statement from the British government said that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday evening announced 50 million pound or more than $68 million in aid to Afghanistan.
The aid will reach more than 2.5 million people in Afghanistan, most of them women, the source said.
The aid is part of a $391million aid package announced by the British government to Afghanistan in September.
Britain said the aid would reach Afghans in need through UN agencies and the Red Cross.
British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson called on the leaders of the world’s the G20’s major economies to do more in supporting girls’ education around the world, particularly in Afghanistan.
He said the aid would provide immediate protection against damage to Afghans, but preventing a humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan and maintaining the gains of the past two decades in the country required international efforts.
Two and a half months have passed since the new government of Afghanistan was established, but no country has recognized it so far and the international community has said that it monitors the performance of the new Afghan administration.
The international community says that protection of girls’ and women’s rights is the primary condition for recognition of the new administration of Afghanistan.
