PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Government officials in northern Baghlan province say 17 non-governmental organizations out of the total 52 NGOs have stopped their activities in the province.

This was said by Baghlan economy director Sadiqullah Shinwari at a gathering about the launch of development programs in the province here on Wednesday.

He said 52 local and foreign NGOs had been operating in the province earlier this year but unfortunately 17 of them had stopped their activities. These organizations have initiated 96 projects and were able to complete 69 projects and could not complete the rest due to economic issues, he explained.

Baghlan Governor Qari Bakhtiar, who attended the meeting, said that all should work together for the reconstruction of the country and coordination among all government agencies in this regard was essential.

The governor added that a plan has been drawn up for the balanced development of the entire province, which will be implemented by partner organizations led by the economy department.

Khal Mohammad Khan, field manager for the Aga Khan Foundation in Baghlan, said the organization had no personal problems, but had delayed their activities due to the recent developments in the country.

He hoped that if relations between the institutions and other countries were re-established, the problem would be resolved.
