KABUL (Pajhwok): Residents of capital Kabul are complaining about high internet prices of telecom companies and poor quality of the service.

A Pajhwok reporter interviewed a number of residents in different parts of Kabul who complained about bad quality of internet services.

One of them, Rafiullah, a resident of Yaka Tut area of Kabul’s ninth police district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that internet services of telecom companies had recently lost their quality.

“The internet is not working properly, sometimes the signals are lost and the prices of the service are very high,” he said.

Mansoor, a resident of Qalachah area of Kabul, said he had used the internet of all telecommunication networks, but none of them were working properly.

“The internet doesn’t work in our area, we sometimes even cannot make a call,” he said.

Khalid Arman, a resident of Ahmad Shah Baba Mena in Kabul, said that some telecom companies in their area also did not work properly.

“These telecom companies say that internet is 4G, but it doesn’t work even like 2G and they charge a lot of money. This problem needs to be solved,” he said.

Many residents of other parts of Kabul also expressed similar concerns and called on government officials to resolve the problem.

Pajhwok tried to get the views of telecommunication companies on the issue, but only Afghan Wireless Company officials responded.

Eng. Abdul Wakil, who is in charge of the company’s sites, told Pajhwok that public complaints were baseless and that the internet was working well in all parts of Kabul.

“I visit all my sites every day. There is no problem, but the service may not work in the basement of some houses,” he said.

EnayatullahAlokozai, a spokesman for the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, told Pajhwok that efforts were being made to resolve the issue.

He said that areas where the internet did not work properly have been identified and the ministry’s leadership was working to address the problem.

He also said that the ministry had also talked with officials of telecommunication networks about the poor quality of internet and some steps have already been taken.

Besides Kabul, people in other provinces of the country are also complaining about the poor quality of internet and urge officials to solve the problem.
