KABUL (Pajhwok): The University of Lahore would pay salaries of doctors working at Pakistan-built hospitals in Afghanistan under an agreement signed on Tuesday.

The agreement between the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and Lahore University of Pakistan was signed between Dr. Qalandar Ibad, Acting Minister of Public Health of Afghanistan, and a delegation from Lahore University.

According to Ibad, under the agreement, Lahore University would pay the salaries and daily expenses of doctors in Pakistani-built hospitals in Afghanistan.

“The payment of salaries started from Mohammad Ali Jinnah hospital in Kabul where 210 people were paid one month salary.”

He said the University of Lahore was committed to providing salaries to the staff of Naib Aminullah Khan hospital in Logar and the kidney hospital in Nangarhar.

“Pakistan has already allocated some budget for these hospitals which will be sent to Afghanistan in the next few days and all the salaries of the staff of these hospitals will be paid,” he said.

According to him, under the agreement, Lahore University will also help in building the capacity of the staff of these hospitals.

During the meeting, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kabul Mansoor Ahmad Khan said that Pakistan has always cooperated with Afghanistan in the fields of health, education and others.

He added that Lahore University would provide medical equipment and technical facilities to the hospitals.
