PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) has ordered control of cargo trucks plying the Kabul-Logar highway after Pajhwok Afghan News released a report on the issue.

Three days ago, Pajhwok reported the main highway linking central Logar province with Kabul would be destroyed if the weight of vehicles carrying coal to Pakistan was not controlled.

In a letter, the MoPW directed all its provincial departments to prevent excessive coal being loaded on trucks.

The letter reads: “All departments of public works are directed to inform cargo vehicle owners to observe rules and regulations and avoid loading more coal on trucks.”

Omar Mansour, the Logar governor’s spokesman, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the letter’s receipt by the public works department.

He said the letter directed the department to control the weight of trucks. He said no one was allowed to carry more than a certain amount of weight on trucks. Anyone violating the rules would be dealt with under the law, the spokesman warned.

Logar residents thanked Pajhwok for releasing the report, saying the news agency always reflected the truth.

Sardar Wali Bahij, a resident of Pul-i-Alam, said: “We would like to thank Pajhwok for releasing the report regarding people’s concern and diverting the authorities’ attention to the issue.”
