GHAZNI CITY/GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Eight people have been killed and five others wounded as a result of flash floods in southern Ghazni and southeastern Paktia provinces, officials said on Sunday.
Five people were killed and two others injured in the Khairabad locality of Ghazni City on Saturday night due to a flash flood caused by continued rainfall.
A total of 180 houses were destroyed in the Qala Eshrat and Khairbad localities. Torrential rain also inflicted financial losses to people in the Qala-i-Ameer Mohammad, Pashtoonabad and other areas, according to Information Director Mawlavi Habibullah Mujahid.
Elsewhere, three children have been killed and three other people wounded due to flash floods in the Zazi Aryub and Chamkani districts of Paktia province.
Information Director Khaliqyar Ahmadzai said on Saturday evening a Saracha type was drowned in water after heavy rainfall.
He said two children were killed and three other people injured in the accident.
A child was also killed due to a flood in the Chari village of Chamkani district.
Paktia Natural Disaster Management Authority called an emergency meeting to address the situation.
