NEILI (Pajhwok): Ibrahim, a resident of central Daikundi province, has been running a rubber shoes business for 22 years despite the presence of modern varieties in the market.

These shoes are locally known as “Dupi” and wearing them has become a culture in the province.

Ibrahim said he had inherited the business from his father. He makes 200 pairs of rubber shoes annually and sells them in his shop.

He said most of his customers were from Shahristan and Meramor districts. “This business has a 40 years history. I have been in it for 22 years.”

Ibrahim makes the shoes using van and truck tyers. He usually takes about two hours making one pair of shoes and sells each pair for 300 afghanis.

According to Ibrahim, he earns more than 1,000 afs a day whereby he meet his family needs.
