Some neighbours out to brand Afghanistan as insecure state: FM

KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Saturday claimed that some foreigners and the neighboring countries have tried to describe Afghanistan as insecure country.

Muttaqi made the remarks during a gathering here organized to appreciate the active role of representatives of government institutions and media persons in the government accountability program.

He said: “Some foreigners and neighboring countries are striving to portrait Afghanistan unsafe and labeled us as terrorists.”

He added instability in Afghanistan was not in the interest of the region and the world, adding that the current state of security and stability in Afghanistan must be admired.

According to the Muttaqi, the Afghan soil has not been used against anyone and will not be used in future.

The acting foreign minister claimed some countries wanted to isolate Afghanistan, but it was a huge success that the country emerged a crossroad connecting Central and South Asia.

Muttaqi did not name anyone, but Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, addressing the UN General Assembly in New York on Friday, said the international community was concerned about the threat of terrorist groups from Afghanistan.

Muttaqi said Afghanistan was facing new challenges as about 30 million people were facing economic crisis and the banking system in the country was on halted.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar said that the caretaker government of Afghanistan had significant achievements in last one year.

He said the government had shared its achievements with the nation and hailed by the nation.

Baradar said the Islamic Emirate was able to stop embezzlement and opium cultivation, pay salaries to more than 400,000 employees and eliminate parallel institutions in more than one year.

Second Deputy PM Abdul Salam Hanafi on the occasion said today’s ceremony showed that the government was committed to freedom of expression.

He said after the establishment of the Islamic Emirate in the country, all government and private media had continued to operate freely without any issue.

Hanafi asked other countries not to interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the government spokesman, said: “The nation saw that we are moving on with discipline all the activities have been shared with the people through the media, and the Islamic Emirate is showing its commitment.”

He said in this program showed to everyone that the Islamic Emirate had done a lot and the governance had improved.

Some government institutions representatives and media persons were distributed letters of appreciations at the end of the gathering.
