KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): European Union (EU) representatives have assured Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi of painting a positive image of the Islamic Emirate, says an official.
EU representatives, during a trip to southern province on March 1, met Kandahar officials and Muttaqi, the governor’s spokesman said.
Haji Zaid told Pajhwok Afghan News EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson, , EU Delegation head Raffaella Iodice and some provincial official took part in the meeting.
He quoted the foreign minister as welcoming EU’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. Muttaqi hoped the aid would bring the two sides even closer.
Muttaqi asked the delegation members to encourage their respective countries to open their diplomatic missions in Afghanistan, where they would face no security threat.
Zaid said Deputy Governor Maulvi Hayatullah Mubarak sought EU assistance for promoting agriculture, education, health, poppy alternatives and constructing dams in Kandahar.
The provincial officials assured the EU delegation of robust cooperation in the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Kandahar.
Raffaella Iodice praised efforts by the Islamic Emirate to bolster security and eradicate corruption.
The UE delegate promised to stand with Afghans, continue providing assistance and paint a positive image of the Islamic Emirate to the world, Zaid concluded.
