KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The acting minister of interior has urged newly-graduated police officials in southern Kandahar province to maintain people’s trust and arrest criminal activities.

The graduation ceremony involving 380 policemen was held on Sunday at the Islamic and National Police Education and Training Center in Kandahar City.

The Kandahar governor, deputy governor and military officials in the southern zone were in attendance.

Haji Zaid, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani stressed the imperative of unity. He argued unity made it possible for the Islamic Emirate to defeat the world.

“Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani told mujahideen we did not have enough resources, but we defeated the world with our unity of command and strong will.”

Haqqani acknowledged Kandahar had a history of producing heroes who stood up against empires. This gift from Allah has made Kandahar home to Islamic leadership and Muslim unity, according to the minister.

Haqqani asked the graduating policemen to discharge their responsibilities in an efficient way. Their responsibilities had increased, he added.

Haqqani also urged police officers to be polite, demonstrate good manners and interact with the public and avoid using social media while on duty.

At the end of the ceremony, policemen promised they would perform their duties with full honesty and commitment.
