The municipality collected 93 million afs revenue during the previous 1400 solar year and 181 million during the just ended 1401 year, Bilal said.
Doing away with corruption and transparency in long-term contracts were key reasons behind the surge in income, the mayor added.
The municipality was trying to further increase its income to provide more services to the people, he said.
He added currently many reconstruction projects worth tens of millions of afghanis were being executed in Khost city.
Satisfied with the municipality’s services, Khost city residents urged the government to increase income sources of the municipality.
Ezzat Mir, a resident of Khost city, told Pajhwok Afghan News the revenue the municipality had collected should be spent on development projects according to the needs of the people.
“Such projects will create job opportunities for the people and add more to the beauty of the city”, he said.
Mohammad Shafi, another resident of Khost city said, such gatherings about accountability could increase public’s trust in the government.
He urged officials of other government departments to explain their activities to the people through such gatherings.
