Jalalabad municipality executes projects worth 290m afs

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The municipality executed 14 reconstruction projects in Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, last solar year using its own budget, an official said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here, Jalalabad municipality spokesman Bakhti Jan Murad said many other projects were also completed with cooperation of donor agencies with some still in progress.

Shedding light on the municipality’s last year’s performance, Murad said they collected 427 million afghanis in revenue in 1401 solar year — 175 million afghanis up compared to 1400 fiscal year.

He attributed the increase in revenue to the prevention of corruption and transparency in long-term contracts.

He said 14 projects were implemented at a cost of 290 million afghanis paid from the municipality’s budget.

He said they were trying to increase revenue in order to provide proper civic services to Jalalabad residents.

Anwar Khan, a resident of Jalalabad city, asked  the municipality to pay full attention to urban development which he called important in the wake of increasing population.

He said if the municipality spent its revenues regularly on reconstruction projects for the city’s development, it would deal with congestion and disorder.

The Jalalabad municipality has started many projects in different areas of the city using its own income and with cooperation of donar agencies.
