KABUL (Pajhwok): A transport company in central Logar province has announced donating $100,000 to a campaign on social media “build an equipped cancer hospital in Afghanistan” launched by many Afghans.

Javed Ibrahimi, who has been assisting the needy and poor people in the country, in a video message on his Facebook page two days ago appealed to all investors, national cricket players and charitable organization to donate to the campaign.

He said he alone could not build the cancer hospital and all Afghans should join him in the national project.

He added that many Afghans assured him help after his appeal for building a well-equipped cancer hospital in Afghanistan.

Ibrahimi said: “A sister sent me a message, saying she will sell her gold bangles to donate to the noble cause.”

He said enough resources were required to build a cancer hospital, but it was possible through a national campaign, urging the Ministry of Public Health to provide land for the hospital.

After the campaign was launched, many Afghans on social media vowed to help and called for initiation of practical work on the hospital.

Gulreez Sherzad, the head of Logar Transport Company, expressed his happiness over the launch of the campaign on his Facebook page and announced $100,000 donation.

He said the aid would be handed over to the authorized committee after evaluation of the hospital’s location, specifications and construction plan and further cooperation would be fully discussed.

Abdul Hadi Hamas, head of the Hamas Charity Foundation, wrote on his Facebook page today: “Cancer takes the lives of thousands of our citizens every year, the disease is treatable if diagnosed in time. Therefore I announce one million afghanis donation from my foundation”.

He said 250 charities were registered with the Ministry of Justice and if each charity donated one million afghanis, then it was possible to build a well-equipped hospital with 250 million afghanis.

Al Burhan Charitable Foundation also said it would contribute to the campaign on its part.

Many people called on spin wizard Rashid Khan, also the Twenty/20 team captain, who is bought at a high price in commercial games of India, Pakistan and other countries, to ask his international friends to build a cancer hospital in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Atta Charitable Foundation head Attaullah Shaghiwal also asked the government in a video message to give land to their foundation to build a special and standard hospital for heart diseases.

He said there should be a place that was easily accessible to the people from all provinces.

Khan Jan Alokozi, Deputy Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told Pajhwok that he supported the campaign to build a hospital for cancer in the country and announced his cooperation with it.

Dr. Sardarwali Waziri wrote on his Facebook page: “Some conscious young people have been talking about building new hospitals for heart and cancer patients. This idea is great and we really need it.”

He said previously a lot of work had been done on Nangarhar’s Eastern Health Complex, a thousand-bed hospital.

He added enough land had been given to the project which had been about 90 percent completed.

Pajhwok tried to get the Public Health Ministry’s opinion about the establishment of a cancer hospital, but received no response.
