Kunduz’s Chardara residents lack access to health services

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Residents of remote villages in the Chardara district of northern Kunduz province lack access to health facilities and as a result they are facing numerous problems.

Residents of remote areas say they do not have access to health services and their areas could not be paid attention to the past wars.

Chadara had been the scene of fierce and bloody clashes in the past war. Its residents say now the war has ended and the current government should set up health facilities in remote areas of the district.

They said critical patients often die before reaching health clinics due to their remoteness.

Abdul Malik Jalalzai, a resident of Akh Shakh village in the district, said the lack of a health center in their village was a serious problem and called on the caretaker government to address the issue.

“Kunduz city is an hour’s drive from our village, but the road is in a bad condition. A critical patient may die on the way to hospital. A month ago, my cousin’s grandson fell ill, we hired a taxi, but he died before reaching Kunduz City.”

He said dozens of people had died in recent years due to lack of access to health centers, calling on the government to pay attention to the matter.

Juma Gul Armani, another resident, said one or two health centers existed in the district, but they lacked enough facilities. He also asked the government to resolve the issue of lack of health facilities in the district.

“We are facing many problems. There is a clinic in our area, but when patients visit it, they are not given medicines. The government should resolve this issue.”

Kunduz Public Health director Dr. Najibullah Sahil said that Ministry of Public Health was planning to build clinics and health centers in remote areas to address people’s problems.

Additionally, he added, mobile health teams had been set up in remote areas of the province to provide treatment to people.

He said: “The Ministry of Public Health has the intention to establish 27 health clinics in remote areas of Kunduz and work in this regard is underway.”

Besides Chardara district, residents of other areas of Kunduz have also complained about lack of health services in their areas.
