KABUL (Pajhwok): Kuwaiti football manager Abdullah Al-Mutairi has formally assumed the role as head coach of the Afghanistan national football team.
A citizen of Kuwait, Al-Mutairi, who arrived in Kabul four days ago, was on Tuesday introduced as the head coach of the Afghanistan national football team during a ceremony in Kabul.
The Afghanistan National Sports and Olympic Committee wrote on its Twitter page quoting Al-Mutairi as saying: “I am glad to be here in Afghanistan and it is an honor for me, it is the beginning of success for me and it is a good chance for the domestic athletes of Afghanistan.”
The National Olympic Committee had said a training camp would be arranged for the national team players in near future in Kabul, in which foreign players would also participate.
The Afghanistan Football Federation had announced that a training camp would be held in Kabul to select best players for the Afghanistan national football team after the appointment of a new coach.
Abdullah Al-Mutairi replaces Anush Dastgir, who resigned from in December last year.
