Rahman Baba Mena residents want construction of Sarak-i-Naw Road

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some residents of Rahman Baba Mena in capital Kabul have demanded the much delayed construction of a road in their area.

The residents of 8th Municipality District said contract for the construction of this road was inked during the past and present government but work on this vital road could not be started so far.

Officials of Kabul municipality confirmed that their plan for the current solar year included the reconstruction of Sarak Naw of Rahmand Baba E section and would be constructed.

This road connected Qalai Barqi, Hewadwal Township, Stanikzai Township, Dosad Famili area, Rahman Mina project and some other parts of the MD#8 to the main road of Karti Naw area.

Sediqullah, a resident of 8th district told Pajhwok Afghan News, many promises were made for the construction of this road, but it still remained in rough condition and its work has never begun.

The contract for the construction of this road was signed during the previous government and some of its initial works were done, but the construction of the road had not started yet, Sediqullah said.

He added, the contract for the construction was renewed after the takeover by the caretaker government and the survey was also conducted but unfortunately the main work of this road was yet to kicked off.

“There is always rush on this road, accidents happen, the traffics get jammed and every person needs 25 minute to pass this road” he said.

The residents of Rahman Mina, Qalai Barqi, Hewadwal Township, Stanikzai Mina, Dosad Famili, Rahman Mina Project and some other areas use this road for transportation purpose, Sediqullah said.

Mohammad Nasim, another resident of 8th district told Pajhwok, one lane of this road was constructed while its second lane remains rough and unconstructed.

The constructed lane of this road is being damages due the pressure of traffic.

Sediqullah further added: “The unconstructed part of this road have turned into the dumps of garbage, as the traffic pass through this road they create much dust, it become muddy during the rain time, all such issues create much problems for the people of this area”.

He has also confirmed that the officials of municipality told him that the contract for the construction of this road was signed but the actual work of the construction is yet to begin.

Babur is a resident of Stanikzai Mina told Pajhwok that this road is rough and it created many problems for the people of this area.

He said: “If it snows or rains in the winter, the road become full of mud, if anyone fall sick, he cannot reach to the hospital on time”.

The residents of this area pay the municipality their monthly fees for their garbage clearance but they still wait for the municipality to build this road.

This area is not far away from the center of Kabul city, but its residents are deceived since 15 years by various promises, he added.

While some other residents, during their interviews with Pajhwok urged the municipality of Kabul City to construct this road.

But Niamatullah Barakzai, the representative of Kabul municipality told Pajhwok, our plan for the current year already include the Sarak Naw Road construction project.

Barakzai added: “This road is 3.3 kilometers long and 162 million afs budget has been allocated for its construction, three bus stops will bet build along this road and currently this project is in its procurement process of the private sector”.

The municipality of Kabul plans to implement 150 different schemes during the current year at the cost of 5.24 afs billion in the limits of the capital city of Kabul, he said.

According to Barakzai, 85 of the mentioned schemes are roads projects while the road of Rahman Mina is already included in these projects.
