ACB names squad for ODI series against Bangladesh

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Cricket Board’s selection committee has announced squad for three ODI series against Bangladesh.

The three matches will be played between Afghanistan and Bangladesh on July 5th, 8th and 11th.

Asadullah Khan, head of the selection committee, told a press conference the same squad would play the World Cricket Cup 2023.

Squad:

Hashmatullah Shahidi (C), RahmanullahGurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Riza Hassan, Rahmat Shah, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Shahid Kamal, Ikram Alikhel, AzmatullahOmarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Rahman, Zia Rahman Akbar, Izhar-ul-Haq Naveed, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Abdul Rahman, Sayed Ahmad Shirzad, WafadarMomand and Salim Safi.

Reserved players:

Karim Janat, Zubaid Akbari, Qais Ahmad, Ihsanullah, Gulbaddin Naib, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Naveen-ul-Haq, Farid Malik, Darwish Rasouli and Ashoq Rahimi.

About the recent test match against Bangladesh who won the game by 546 runs, their highest victory margin in tests, Asadullah Khan said  the national side’s dismal performance was due to time shortage.

However, he added the test provided them the opportunity to test young players to work on them in the future and prepare them for Test matches.

He also requested cricket fans not to criticize the national players on social media to avoid pressure on them.

To a question, he said it was good for experience of Afghan players to playin international commercial leagues, but the cricket board was trying to ensure they participate in domestic games and training camps.

After the ODI series, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will also play two T20 matches on July 14 and 16.
