JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A fire broke out at a market in Jalalabad city of eastern Nangarhar province, inflicted millions of afghanis losses to shopkeepers.
The fire erupted in one of the markets in limits of 1st police district of Jalalabad city at 2:20pm on Wednesday.
Nangarhar Fire Department Director Haji Rasheed said the firefighters rushed to the area immediately and extinguished the fire and prevented the losses of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Rasheed told Pajhwok Afghan News that an electric short circuit caused the fire that gutted 15 shops and a hotel worth about $1 million, and luckily no one died or hurt in the blaze.
Bakhti Jan Murad, a spokesman of Jalalabad municipality, said their team also reached the site on timely basis and contributed in safeguarding of commercial goods of the people.
Anwar Shah, a shopkeeper told Pajhwok the fire erupted from an underground floor of Chahar Dihi Market due to an electric short circuit and burned the shops and the surrounding of the hotel and market.
