Ghani: No intention to join warlords

KABUL (Pajhwok): Former President Ashraf Ghani in his Eid message says the Afghan nation reserves the right to ask the warlords why they have wasted the golden opportunities and filled their pockets and bank accounts.

In his Eid-ul-Adha message shared on his Facebook page, Ghani stressed: “Here, I would like to say clearly that I’m not ready to take a step with the warlords in the political filed of Afghanistan.

Along with Eid greetings to all Muslims and Afghans, he said: “With the arrival of the religious festival, which are considered the blessed nights and days, provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our national sacrifices.”

He said: “This national defeat of long decades, which has damaged the mental and physical health of our society and country, has always been reflected in violence. Despite the fact that the Taliban, the main perpetrators of the violence of the last 20 years, brought some stability to the power, but the violence did not stop.”

Ghani said: “Instead of the permanent and just peace that we wanted, they chose the path of negative security and this is not an achievement; it is forced security that does not yield positive results.”

Ashraf Ghani said that the negative security not only did not bring prosperity, but also put the rulers at odds with the Afghans and the world.

“The Taliban once again could not distinguish between the goal and the means, they seized power, but did gain legitimacy and they did not achieve it. On the other hand, it is also clear that national stability cannot come without the Taliban,” the ex-president added.

“Making peace and stability permanent now depends on honestly investigating the past 20 years’ treatment of Taliban, admitting the mistakes and thereby removing the excuses for violence and revenge,” he said.

Ashraf Ghani said: “We wanted to turn Afghanistan into the dynamic heart of Asia, instead of relying on others, but unfortunately this caravan of compromise was stopped halfway. You now have the right to ask the Taliban what they want and how they want to implement it.”

According to him, currently the countries are dealing with the global crisis and that has spread to the world and will remain for many years.

“Do the Taliban understand the depth of this crisis? The answer is negative, because they are in conflict with the nation and religion in the name of religion.

He said: “Afghanistan’s natural resources have been auctioned for immediate profit and because of this, the current rulers have faced historical responsibility.” Neither the Taliban have the legitimacy nor do the right to sell Afghanistan’s mines to anyone through secret deals, nor do foreign countries and companies have the right to lock the country’s resources in the vacuum of legitimacy. Our geography, our airspace, our water, our environment, etc., like our mines, are very valuable and every bit of them needs careful attention and protection.”

He said: “We must reach a conclusion on the shape of the system and the constitution; the boundaries of the discussion should be clear, but the nation should make the decision. This is the way to reach legitimacy.”
