82km road asphalted in Kabul last year: Municipality

KABUL (Pajhwok): Kabul City Municipality has implemented 200 development projects, concreted and asphalted 82 kilometers of road, planted hundreds of sapling and transferred around 500,000 tonnes of garbage outside the city last year, an official said on Sunday.

 Infrastructure development

Niamatullah Barakzai, the cultural affairs advisor of Municipality, said 82. 18 kilometres road with up to 60 metres width which was part of 25 projects had been asphalted and concreted last year, 16.18 kilometre of this road was asphalted by the Protection and Safety Department while 66 kilometres was asphalted by the private companies.

He said during this period the construction of canals, mosques, deep wells and others also conducted.

Hygiene, cleanliness

Barakzai said 500,000 garbage had been collected and transferred to the Gazak area outside Kabul, thousands cubic metres of sewage water from private homes and government institutions building also taken outside the city, 48,000 stray dogs were also rounded up from Kabul City.

Greenery

Last year, he said 400,000 different types of saplings were planted in different parts of Kabul City.

He said that seeds production, sapling growth branches decoration of green areas including parks and green belts, were among the other functions of this department during last year.

Health, environmental protection

Barakzai said last year 19,378 shops were inspected and collected over 199,000 tonnes of expired items, 3,423 loudspeakers were also rounded up from different parts of the city that caused environmental pollution.

He said last year 3,692 buildings were monitored and it was found that 2,518 were without heating system and 512 were without filters.

Cultural Affairs

Barakzai said that 13 roundabouts were reconstructed and decorated during religious events, 567 video clips reflecting upon the activities of municipality had been made and displayed. Programs to promote awareness about animals at Kabul Zoo were also organized.

Municipality Revenue

According to Barakzai, the Kabul Municipality collected over 4.2 billion afs revenue in 11 months and 233 million afs liabilities from different the municipality districts and their officials.

He said over 124.5 million afs of the total revenue was collected from commercial places and townships.

 This year’s plan

Qari Mohammad Qasim Afghan, planning and monitoring head of Kabul Municipality, said 150 development projects have been planned for the next two years in which 125 would be construction projects and the remaining would be other types of schemes.

Of the construction projects, 85 would be implemented in road construction while 40 others would be canals and blocks construction.
