GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Using their own money, residents of Azad Khan Qala area of Ghazni city, the capital of southern Ghazni province, have laid the foundation stone of a school building.

Jibrael Azadzoi, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that education was the only way to get rid of the current problems.

Keeping this in mind, he said the residents laid the foundation stone for construction of a building for the middle school at their own expense.

This school building will cost about 15 million afghanis and its construction works will be finished in six months, Azadzoi said.

According to Azadzoi, the residents of the area are determined to strengthen the education process in cooperation with the government and they will equip the school building with all necessary facilities.

He added: “We want all of our girls to be educated like our boys, so we urge the government to upgrade this middle school to a high school”.

Hameed, a student of the school, told Pajhwok that the educational environment of the school was not safe and once its building was completed, most problems would be solved.

Provincial officials thanked the people of Azad Khan Qala area for constructing the school building on self-help basis.

Maulvi Zainuddin Nasir, deputy director of education, said the middle school had no building and its foundation stone was laid by the people of the area.

Nasir asked residents of other areas of Ghazni province to follow the example of Azad Khan Qala residents in paving the ground for their children’s education.

According to officials, the middle school was established in 2015 and about 400 students are enrolled in the school taught by 11 teachers.

The two-storey building of this school is being built on 2.5 acres of land provided by the government.

The building will have 16 classrooms and administrational offices and will have the capacity to accommodate 500 students. The building is estimated to cost 15 million afs to be paid by ordinary people of the area.
