43,774 persons provided vocational training last year: Ibrahimi

KABUL (Pajhwok): Nearly 44,000 people nationwide have been provided with vocational training last year, an official said on Sunday.

Samiullah Ibrahimi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Work and Social Affairs, told reporters here 43,774 people have been provided vocational training in the government and NGO vocational training centres.

He said a vocational training centre for rehabilitated drug addicts was opened in Kabul and 530 rehabilitated persons were provided vocational training.

He said 8,579 orphans and parentless boys and girls have been provided shelter and basic living facilities in the state run and private orphanage centres.

He said the ministry addressed 21,762 cases of children who were at risk.

Ibrahimi said the committee rounding up baggers has rounded up 18,777 children out of whom 7,210 children are referred to the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) for registration and inspection.

He said after inspection 11,496 children were identified as professional baggers while 71 parentless children were referred to the orphanage cnetres.

He said 79 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with 50 national and international NGO to attract aid and assistance.

When asked about the number of orphanage centres and the number of orphans in these facilities, Ibrahimi said: “Currently, 8,579 orphans and provided shelter in 24 government and 30 private orphans’ centres.”

Mawlavi Hussain Ahmad Madani, General Director of the Work and Social Affairs Ministry said last year 26,991 work licenses distributed local individuals and collected over 5.5 million afs.

Foreign individuals distributed 1847 licenses which generated over 32.5 million afs.

Sending Afghan youth to foreign countries for work and providing vocational training for recovered drug addicts were the top priorities of ongoing year, according to the officials.
