KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran says it will send its representative to attend the Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan in Russia.
The caretaker Afghan government is likely to be represented at the huddle, scheduled for September 29 in the Russian city of Kazan.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani was quoted as saying by ISNA: “As far as we know, the host government has invited a Taliban delegation to the meeting.”
The participants are expected to confer on the inclusivity of the interim Afghan government. Kabul has confirmed its participation, according to Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan.
Created in 2017, the platform brings together Russia, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Turkey attended the last meeting as observers.
