PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Ashgabat and Islamabad have agreed to accelerate work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.

Turkmenistan Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy Muhammad Ali discussed the long-delayed project at a meeting in Islamabad.

“With increasing energy demand of the country, such projects need an aggressive approach,” Ali said while underlining the role of gas in Pakistan’s economic growth.

The two sides agreed frequent meetings of the working group on the TAP electricity project will be held to expedite the scheme and the host government agreement (HGA) concluded in October.”

The pipeline will carry natural gas from the Gylkynish and adjacent gas fields in Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The ADB is facilitating and coordinating the project.
