29 schools in Daikundi’s Miramor district without buildings

NEILI (Pajhwok): Residents of Miramor district in central Daikundi province say majority of schools in the district have no buildings of their own and students either attend classes under the open sky or in mosques.

Officials of the provincial Education Department admit that out of 71 schools in the district, 29 are without buildings.

Abdul, a student of ‘Tai Kan Barkar’ school in Miramor district, told Pajhwok Afghan News they study either under open sky or in a building of Hussiniah.

He said the students faced many problems especially during cold and hot weather. He said they used to study in mosque when winter turned bitter.

He said their school was yet to be provided tents, while some other schools lacking buildings had been distributed tents.

He said: “The people are very poor and incapable to build classrooms by themselves, students of primary classes usually study in mosques or under open sky”.

Mohammad Ali Mohammadi, an influential figure of Miramor district, said the people in the district faced many challenges and their efforts to solve the issue of lack of school buildings in the past had no positive result.

Mohammadi said: “The school in our locality has no building, residents gather every year and decide in which mosque students should study”.

Mohammadi asked the government to construct buildings for schools to provide safe learning environment for children.

Education officials confirm some schools in Miramor district have no buildings.

Qari Enayatullah Sahaar, deputy director of the provincial Education Department, said there were 71 schools in Miramor district and only 36 of them had buildings.

He said the Education Department was trying to construct buildings for all schools in Miramor district and currently buildings for six schools were being constructed.

He also said more than 143,000 students were enrolled in in 431 schools in Daikundi province and about 243 schools had buildings and 177 schools had no buildings.
