BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): An environmental protection awareness campaign has been launched in central Bamyan province, an official said on Monday.

According to the officials at least 10,000 people would be provided with awareness campaign in this derive.

Mohammad Ibrahim Dadfar, head of Environment Protection Authority, told Pajhwok Afghan News the purpose of the campaign was to improve public participation in improving the environment.

This program will be implemented through awareness campaign in schools, seminars and gatherings with local religious scholars.

Dadfar believed unless public knowledge is not improved regarding environment protection and the importance of the environment, people themselves will not take part to protect and preserve the environment.

The aim of this campaign is to protect the environment, use sustainable natural resources and take part in the cleanliness of the environment and prevent arbitrary misuse.

He pointed out that if more awareness programs are launched that involved scholars, local development councils, especially school students, so that urban culture and environmental education can be completed at the level of education, this knowledge will be then transferred to remote areas as well.

He added, this program has so far covered about two thousand people in the provincial capital, it is scheduled that 10,000 people will receive awareness about environment protection until the end of this year.

He added, the officials of environment protection authority in cooperation with security personnel have banned the hunt of wild life and cutting of forest arbitrarily in Bamyan province.

The scholars and students have welcomed this program, they said, the more awareness spreads, the more people understand about their responsibilities towards the protection of environment.

Murad Nazari, an environmental affairs expert, added in this regard that the issue of environment protection was not limited to a specific area; all the members of a society will be affected by its negative consequences.

Nazari said, right now the climate change, destruction of greenery, arbitrary cutting of forests and other greenery are the matters of major concerns, the officials must pay attention to it.

Ali, one of the students think that this is a useful program, through these educational campaigns, he learned that the environment should be kept clean and never throw garbage in public places because it causes the spread of diseases.
