PUL-I-KHUMARI (Pajhwok): A commercial market is being constructed at a cost of 564 million afghanis in Pul-i-Khumari, the capital of northern Baghlan province.

Pul-i-Khumari mayor Abdul Latif Mazulm, who inaugurated construction work on the market, said illegally constructed buildings in Ghali Mundoi area were being demolished and a six-storey commercial market was being built on the land.

He said the commercial market was being constructed on 10,000 square meters land at a cost of 564m afs.

He added the cost was paid by the contracting company and the market would be given to the same company for 35 years.

Malak Nik Mohammad, lessee of Ghali Mundoi, said for years, efforts were made to build a commercial market in this place, but works had been delayed due to some problems in the previous government.

He said some shopkeepers would lose work area with construction of the market, but others would l be provided with work opportunities.

Meanwhile, Hafiz Saddat, manager of the contracting company, said  the commercial market would be of international standards and would take three years to complete. He said they would try to complete the market within two years.

For the first time, a commercial market is being built at such a high cost in Baghlan.
