Kunar’s Hoz locality residents construct road at own cost

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): The residents of Hoz locality in Kunar province’s Watapur district have collected fund and started the construction of a 20 kilomtres road in their area.

The resident of Hoze locality did not have road for vehicles.

Sherullah, a tribal elder told Pajhwok Afghan News it was the first time that a road has been constructed at the cost of 4 million afs in their area.

“We have completed the construction of around 20 kilomtres road through fund collection by the residents of locality, still we need a piece of road to be constructed in order to connect the entire village,” he said.

He sad up 50 local resident volunteerly worked in the construction of the road daily.

Mawlavi Mohammad Munib Afghan, another local resident and a religious scholar, said government or any other organization did not provide fund for the construction of the road and it was entirely the effort of local people.

“We paid 3.6 million afs collected from people to excavator, 400,000 afs given to the driller and people worked voluntarily,” he said.

He said 20 kilometre of the road had been built in one year and still there is need for the construction of another five kilometer road.

Information Department Director Mawlavi Najeebullah Hanif said: “Hoz locality has a large population; up to 30,000 people lived there.”

He hailed public efforts to construct road by their own and said the provincial authority would help construct the remaining five kilometer road.

Kunar is a mountainous province and most of it areas deprived of roads due to its mountainous terrain.
