JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Some Afghan deported refugees have asked authorities to speed up the registration and assistance process of refugees in Torkham.
Local officials in Nangarhar acknowledged the problem and said the slow-paced of registration and assistance distribution process was due to the shortage of human resources.
Mohammad Hussain, a newly arrived refugee in Torkham, told Pajhwok Afghan News eight days back he arrived but still received no assistance.
He demanded that registration and aid distribution process should be accelerated because women and children are spending days and nights in difficulties.
Sanaullah, the resident of Kuz Kunar district, who worked in a brick factory in Pakistan’s Panjab province, said Pakistani officials forced him to leave the country and return to Afghanistan.
He was satisfied with the services provided to the newly arriving refugees in Torkham but said the registration and aid distribution process needed to be accelerated.
Nangarhar Information and Cultural Affairs Head Qari Noor Mohammad Hanif said until yesterday the registration process was going at slow paced but now it had been accelerated.
“This is a huge process, suddenly thousands of people entered and naturally approaching them was difficult, the problems that we had in the past had been addressed and the process had been accelerated,” he said.
According to the information so far up to 150,000 Afghans have entered Afghanistan via Torkham and a large number had left Torkham for their destinations after registration and receiving assistance.
