PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Forced deportation of illegal Afghan refugees is an issue of humanitarian concern, says the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chairman.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai asked the Pakistan government to adhere to the conventions and protocols governing refugee affairs.
Addressing a news conference at the Quetta Press Club, Achakzai deplored the arrest of Pashtuns on the Pakistani side of the Durand Line by security personnel.
Pashtuns on both sides of the Durand Line enjoyed the freedom of freedom of movement, the PMAP chief said, asking Pakistan not to restrict cross-border trade on the pretext of combating smuggling.
Meanwhile, authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province directed police and other officials to deal politely with returning refugees.
“The mapping of undocumented foreigners has already been done. Now teams are encouraging them to leave voluntarily or they will be detained and deported,” The News quoted an official as saying.
Around 49,690 illegal foreigners have been mapped in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Some of them have returned recently.
