FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Fifteen more telecommunication sites have been created in Ferozkoh, the capital of western Ghor province, and some districts in the past two years, an official said on Tuesday.

Mawlavi Mohammad Yousuf Rahnuma, head of the Communication and Information Technology Department (CITD), told Pajhwok Afghan News that before the fall of previous regime 56 sites of different telecom companies were active in Ghor.

He said the residents of Ghor in some areas were deprived of telecom services, adding that in the past two years 15 more telecom sites had been established which helped improved public access to telecom services.

He said the new sites belonged to Salaam, Afghan Wireless Telecommunication Company (AWCC) and Etisalat which had been established in Ferozkoh and Dawlatyar, Lal Was Sarjangal, Taiwara, Pasaband, Allahyar, Alfaroq and Chaharsada districts.

Rahnuma said with the establishment of new sites around 50,000 people will have access to telecom services in these areas.

He added internet service in all active sites had been changed from 2G to 3G and people are benefited from it.

He said the telecom companies have completed the survey of 18 more sites in districts and far-flung areas of the province which will be activated next year.

Rahnuma said efforts were underway in coordination with telecom companies to establish more telecom sites in areas where people have no access to telecom facilities.

Charsada is one of the Ghor districts where people after 20 years have access to telecom services.

Mohammad Shah, one of the local residents, told Pajhwok Afghan News he could not contact his relatives and family members and ask about their well-being.

“In the past 20 years, unfortunately, we people did not have access to telecommunication services and could not get in touch with our friends and relatives on time. Since the antenna of the AWCC was activated, we are happy to be able to use its services.” Gul Mohammad, another local resident, said he was very happy with the activation of Telecom Company in the district because through this service they could address most of their problems.

He said: “Now, whenever we want, we can chat with our relatives and friends who are in other provinces or abroad, and we still use its internet for news and information.”

Allauddin, the resident of Taiwar, district was also thrill about the inception of telecom sites in the district.
