KABUL (Pajhwok): Afchin Company will drill 22 new oil wells in Amu River basin in 2024, an official said on Monday.

Mines and Petroleum Ministry wrote on its X page that Acting Minister Sheikh Shahabuddin Delawar met Shai, head of Afchin Company, in his office on Sunday.

“Afchin Company plans for 2024 include construction of an oil storage with a capacity of 6,000 tons, construction of oil refineries, two and three type survey of 1,300km area, rehabilitation of two inactive wells and drilling 22 new wells and providing directly and indirectly employment to Afghans”.

The ministry said daily extraction of oil would increase to 2,000 tons in 2024.

On the other hand, MoMP spokesman Hamayoon Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News current daily extraction of oil from Amu River basin was 1,100 tones.

In the meeting, Shahabudding Delawar emphasized inclusion of other matters in the contract.

“We provide $3,900 salary to Afghan engineers and experts in oil fields, if Afghanistan has no experts, the company can hire foreigners by paying salaries at the regional level,” Delawar added.

MoMP said currently the company has oil reserves with a capacity of 4,000 tones and new reserves with the capacity of 6,000 tones in Qashqara and other areas would be built as soon as possible.
