KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia has evinced a keen interest in boosting the import of agricultural products from Afghanistan.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said on Friday his country also planned to expand transport and supply links with Afghanistan.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Russia-Islamic World: Kazan Forum 2024, he said: “Afghanistan is critical for ensuring coherence in the region.”

The deputy premier was quoted as saying by TASS: “We are interested in Afghan exports of agriculture products to our market. Last year they started supplying grapes, mixed nuts, dried fruits. We think that the range of goods from Afghanistan will be expanding.”

One key objective behind the forum is to boost trade and economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural ties between Russian regions and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The forum, which is scheduled to conclude tomorrow (Sunday), also seeks to promote the development of Islamic financial system institutions in Russia.
