First ever museum inaugurated in Badghis

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): The provincial Information and Culture Department in western Badghis province has announced opening a museum to preserve artifacts dating back to 5000 years ago.

The museum was inaugurated for visitors in Qala-i-Naw, the provincial capital, with 240 ancient and historical relicts.

Information and Culture director Abdul Awal Habibi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the museum was opened in one of the rooms related the Information and Culture Directorate.

According to Habibi, the ancient artifacts in the museum date back to about five thousand years ago.

He said the museum’s creation cost 200,000 afghanis, but added: “It is just the beginning, the Information and Culture directorate plans to expand the museum.”

Habibi believed the museum would attract foreign tourists to Badghis.

Lcal residents hailed the development, but demanded the facility’s expansion.

Abdul Rahman, a resident of Qala-i-Naw, said: “I am pleased to hear about the museum, but the government must create a separate building for the museum to be very easy and accessible for everyone.”

Gull Ahmad, another resident welcomed the decision and said: “The government and responsible institutions should take steps to build a standard museum and repair the Directorate of Information and Culture building.”

Badghis is home to dozens of ancient and historical attractions.
