KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi and United Nations under Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo have discussed the agenda of an upcoming UN-convened meeting in Doha.
At a meeting here on Sunday; the two sides also conferred on bilateral ties between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and the international community, the Ministry of Foreign Affair (MoFA) said in a statement.
DiCarlo said World Bank and Asian Development Bank representatives would also attend the meeting in addition to envoys from UN member countries and international organisations.
Financial and banking issues, combating drugs, providing alternative livelihoods to farmers, as well as climate change would come up for discussion at the meeting, she explained.
The UN diplomat added the main aim of the gathering was to normalise ties between the caretaker Afghan government and the international community.
For his part, Muttaqi said Afghanistan was one of the first member countries of the UN and had good relations with the world body.
He added Afghanistan’s real representative should represent the country at the UN meetings and the obstacles in this regard be removed.
The minister also referred to the development of IEA’s relations with regional and other countries around the globe.
Muttaqi hoped basic issues would be discussed and existing mechanisms strengthened at the UN-convened meeting.
