KABUL (Pajhwok): Anas Haqqani, a high-ranking member of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), has called US President Joe Biden’s recent remarks about Afghanistan a proud part of the country’s history.

Addressing a joint press conference with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto a day earlier, Biden said Afghanistan was a graveyard for invading empires.

“There’s a reason why Afghanistan has been known as the “graveyard of empires.” The likelihood of anybody uniting Afghanistan is highly, highly, highly unlikely. Number one.

“Number two, there are ways to control ISIS other than occupying Afghanistan. It was an unnecessary need,” the US leader remarked.

In reaction to Biden’s remarks, Haqqani took to X and wrote: “Afghanistan is indeed a graveyard of invading empires & this confession by the president of the United States makes it a proud part of our history. But Biden’s “paradigm” that Afghans are not united is wrong. Spending of billions of dollars on disunity hasn’t yielded results.”

Also, Zabihullah Mujahid, chief spokesman for the IEA, about Biden’s remarks, told National Radio Television that Afghanistan is one nation and history has witnessed that conspiracies have not been able to disperse this nation.

Mujahid said that Daesh had been formed during the presence of the US in Afghanistan, but after the withdrawal of the foreign forces, this group had severely been suppressed by the security forces of the IEA.
