PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Residents of Khyber tribal district have urged the authorities to allow the import of sacrificial animals from Afghanistan before Eidul Adha.
Prices of sheep and goats had dramatically surged because of what they called an undeclared ban on sacrificial animal imports from the neighbouring country over the last five years.
Malak Masal Khan, Shah Khalid, Murad Hussain, Zarbullah and Najeeb told reporters at the Landikotal Press Club the restrictions had affected livestock dealers.
Non-availability of animals at reasonable rates had left many residents of Khyber unable to observe Sunnat-i-Ibrahimi (sacrificing animals on Eidul Adha), they complained.
They urged the federal government to allow local livestock dealers to import sacrificial animals from Afghanistan before the Eid festival.
