KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has welcomed Russia’s stance on engagement and relations with it.
Kabul has been trying to strengthen cooperative relations with Moscow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the ministry hailed recent remarks from top Russian leaders, including President Vladimir Putin and his foreign minister, on expanding relations with Afghanistan.
It voiced strong political determination to further cement positive relations with Russia on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests.
Separately, the IEA spokesman also commended as positive statements from Russian leaders on relations with Afghanistan.
Zabihullah Mujahid told TASS: “This shows that they want to keep interaction with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.”
The interim Afghan government had “extremely positive diplomatic and trade relations” with Russia, the spokesman observed.
Mujahid went on to hope: “With more trust and interaction, we will remove some obstacle [to relations]. The IEA aims to develop good relations with countries, including Russia.”
