LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): More than 100 new industrial factories have been established during the past three years in southern Helmand province, directly providing jobs to nearly 5,000 people.
Director of Chamber of Commerce and Investment Ghulam Yahya Pakhtun told Pajhwok Afghan News a suitable environment had been created for doing business and investment in Helmand after the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
“Most businesspeople are willing to invest in the private sector and provide employment to jobless people and raw materials we have are processed here,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maulvi Fazal Mohammad Fazli, an official of the Commerce and Industry department, said that investment had increased in the province after the IEA’s return to power.
According to him, in the past three years, 105 new industrial factories were established in different areas.
Before the IEA takeover, around 45 factories were active in the province.
He said: “The total number of active factories producing cotton, shampoo, oils, soap, boards, tomato paste, chicken feed, and food items, is 150 in Helmand.”
According to him, 4,500 people have been directly hired in these factories.
“The officials are striving to create facilities for all industrialists and investors, maintain their security and find market for their products at home and abroad,” Fazli added.
Akhtar Mohammad, who is working in a cotton processing factory, says: “We are very happy that we have a job here in the factory. We were unemployed before. Now we can meet our household expenses.”
Najibullah, another youth, who works in a pipe factory, says: “I am happy working here. My request is that more such factories should be set up.”
