FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Technical equipment of a local radio station in northeastern Badakhshan province were damaged as its archive’s roof collapsed.

Director of Amu radio station, Abdul Basir Haqju, said items kept at the archives department of the radio station were extensively damaged because of the roof-collapse incident. The archives contained transmitters, computers and other technical equipment.

Five computers, three data banks, three table-microphones, two power supplies, two solar power boosters, a set of sound mixer and 500 reels of films were buried under the debris and water and ceased to function, Haqju explained.

He expressed their inability to repair the damaged items and said the radio could possibly go off the air.

He asked all media advocacy groups to help them in repairing the damaged items because they had no financial backup.

Information department director Hikmatullah Mohammadi confirmed the roof-collapse incident and said a number of items were rendered useless.

He said the archives roof collapse dealt a huge financial blow to the radio station.
